With the exception of our Senior Centers, and barring any additional State Health Orders, our plan is to open all Limestone County Offices, on Monday, May 11th , to the extent that we can under the State Health Order.
Limestone County is continuing to maintain a safe environment in all county buildings by frequently disinfecting used items and surfaces. As always, the safety of our employees and citizens remain our priority.
Guidelines for entering all county buildings will be the following:
- Maintain six feet of physical distancing
- Personal cloth face coverings are encouraged
- One person per visit, if possible
- Sanitize hands before entering building
- Do not enter the building if you are sick
In accordance with the State Health Order, the opening of our offices will not be business as usual. Please expect new procedures and delays at each building.

- We are requesting individuals needing a pistol permit apply online at limestonesheriff.com or call (256) 232-0111. Individuals who purchase online will be contacted by a third- party vendor when the permit is ready for pickup.
- Inmate visitation onsite has been cancelled, but remote visits may be scheduled online at iwebvisit.com
- Fingerprinting and background checks done for the public have been suspended until further notice.
- Programs and clergy services for inmates have been cancelled until further notice.
We encourage you to utilize as much as possible, county services available online.
As significant changes take place, Limestone County will notify our citizens through the media, our social media platforms, and our website www.limestonecounty-al.gov.
The Commission continues to work closely with national and state agencies to receive up-to-date information regarding COVID-19.

On March 16, 2020, the Limestone County Commission adopted the March 16, 2020 – Resolution of Limestone County Commission to move all future scheduled work sessions hereafter to be held on the Monday of the regularly scheduled Commission meetings, or Tuesday or other such day in the event of a holiday or other scheduling conflict that also moves the regularly scheduled Commission meeting, starting with the Work Session to now be held on Monday, April 06, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at the Clinton Street Courthouse Annex, 100 S. Clinton Street, Athens, Alabama. Any entity or person wishing to have a matter placed on the Commission agenda at a work session for action either at the work session or at the regularly scheduled meeting, shall provide written notice to the Commission and a request to be placed upon the work session agenda by 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday immediately prior to the work session the entity or person desires to be placed on said agenda.
The Work Session and Commission Meeting of the Limestone County Commission scheduled for April 20, 2020, will be livestreamed at www.limestonecounty-al.gov. To be consistent with Governor Kay Ivey’s March 18th Order, only the items necessary to perform essential minimum functions of the governmental body will be addressed. Residents are encouraged to call the Commission Office, prior to the close of business on Friday, April 17, 2020, at 256-233-6400 with any questions or concerns to be addressed during the public comment portion of either of these meetings.
