COVID – 19 Information from Limestone County

Beginning March 20, 2020, all Limestone County Commission Offices will be closed to the public until further notice due to the COVID-19 virus.  This is being done to further protect our citizens as well as our employees.  Our employees are working regular office hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Thank you for your patience.

In accordance with the Order of Governor Kay Ivey and the State Health Officer suspending certain public gatherings due to risk of infection by COVID-19 entered today, March 19, 2020, the Limestone County Courthouse, Limestone County Clinton Street Courthouse Annex, Limestone County Washington Street Courthouse Annex, Limestone County Council on Aging, Limestone County Community Corrections, Limestone County Emergency Management, Limestone County Archives, all District Tool Sheds and the lobby of the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center will immediately be closed to the public until further notice.  During this closure to the public, our employees will continue to report to work to field phone calls and process all incoming mail.  
Weather permitting, our Engineering Department and District Crews will continue performing road work.

With the exception of our Meals on Wheels Program, all Limestone County Senior Centers in Ardmore, Athens, Elkmont, Good Springs, Owens, Tanner and East Limestone will remain closed until further notice. 

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center will continue to operate as usual and can be contacted at (256) 232-0111. However, in accordance with precautions recommended by public health for COVID-19, the following changes have been implemented at Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Facility:

  • We are requesting individuals needing a pistol permit apply online at limestonesheriff.com or call (256) 232-0111. Individuals who purchase online will be contacted by a third- party vendor when the permit is ready for pickup.
  • Inmate visitation onsite has been cancelled, but remote visits may be scheduled online at iwebvisit.com
  • Fingerprinting and background checks done for the public have been suspended until further notice.
  • Programs and clergy services for inmates have been cancelled until further notice.

Although our offices are closed to the public, we encourage you to utilize as much as possible, county services available online.

On March 16, 2020, the Limestone County Commission adopted the  March 16, 2020 – Resolution of Limestone County Commission to move all future scheduled work sessions hereafter to be held on the Monday of the regularly scheduled Commission meetings, or Tuesday or other such day in the event of a holiday or other scheduling conflict that also moves the regularly scheduled Commission meeting, starting with the Work Session to now be held on Monday, April 6, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at the Clinton Street Courthouse Annex, 100 S. Clinton Street, Athens, Alabama.  Any entity or person wishing to have a matter placed on the Commission agenda at a work session for action either at the work session or at the regularly scheduled meeting, shall provide written notice to the Commission and a request to be placed upon the work session agenda by 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday immediately prior to the work session the entity or person desires to be placed on said agenda.
