Notary Public

Effective September 1, 2023, the requirements and procedure to be appointed and commissioned as an Alabama Notary Public changed, pursuant to Alabama Act 2023-548.

To be appointed and commissioned as an Alabama Notary Public in Limestone County an applicant must be a resident of Limestone County and complete all necessary requirements under the new law.

Procedure to be appointed a Notary Public in Limestone County

1. Complete Application for Notary Public Commission
2. Submit completed Application (in person or by mail) with a copy of acceptable photo identification and non-refundable $10.00 application fee (cash, check, or money order payable to Limestone County Probate Judge – no debit or credit cards accepted) to Limestone County Probate Judge (Clinton Street Courthouse Annex, 100 South Clinton Street, Suite D, Athens, Alabama 35611)
3. Probate Judge will mail applicant a letter approving or denying the Application
4. Complete the required on-line Notary Public Training within 30 days after submitting Application
5. Print Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the on-line Notary Public Training
6. Obtain a Notary Public Bond in the sum of $50,000 payable to the State of Alabama from an Alabama licensed producer (insurance company)
7. Deliver the Certificate of Completion and original Notary Public Bond to the Probate Judge (address above) for recording and pay $54.00 recording fee (cash, check, or money order payable to Limestone County Probate Judge – no debit or credit cards accepted)
